Santa Claus Derailed 18 December 2011 exLJ

The idea behind Santa Claus and many other great ideas gets distorted over time. This is usually attributed to greed, to materialism or even simply to someone has to make a living out of it.

The idea that Santa Claus represents is that giving and receiving are beneficial to our well-being and so benefits our health. The problem arose when this giving and receiving became associated solely with giving material gifts. Gifts that we can touch and hold, gifts that we can like or dislike, gifts that represent how much we like or dislike the receiver, gifts that we feel obliged to give.

One global initiative site that I follow suggested that I give them a donation to make we feel good this holiday season.

The real gift was never supposed to be what was given, but the thought behind it. "It's the thought that counts" was the expression used to console us when we were disappointed in a gift we received. And it is the thought that matters.

"It is the thought that counts."

And it is always what we are thinking that matters. So this Christmas give thoughts of Love and Peace to everyone you know and to all the rest of us, as well.

And why limit these gifts to Christmas time. Give Peace and Love to everyone, all the time, throughout the year and throughout the rest of our lives.

What I have always enjoyed about Christmas is the spirit behind it. The spirit that helped parents do their utmost to get the best gifts for their children from Santa Claus. The spirit that allows seemingly total strangers wish each other "Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year."

What we give is what we get. Giving and receiving are one in truth.

So, have a happy, peaceful Christmas and make Christmas yours all year round and all through your life.
